Aretha Franklin, the American gospel singer is dead. She died at 76, according to a family statement released on Thursday.
Further reports indicated that Franklin died at 9:50 a.m. at her home in Detroit. Aretha’s publicist Gwendolyn Quinn who made the news public on behalf of the artiste’s family said she was surrounded by family and friends at the time she died
As an accomplished artiste, Franklin’s gospel-rooted singing and expansive delivery earned her the title “the Queen of Soul.
Reports say the official cause of death was due to advanced pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit.
