Following the end of voting in the Osun State Governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) on Sunday announced the final results, in which the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP led with a total votes of 254, 698.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, came closely next with a total of 254,345 in an election in which observers have described as a keenly contested exercise.
While announcing the results, the returning officer for the governorship election, Prof. Joseph Adeola, reeled out the total number of valid votes to be 767,955 and rejected votes to be 47,843.
He disclosed the margin between the PDP and APC as 353, and the total cancelled ballots totalling 3348 which can make a difference, in line with the electoral act, and therefore, declared the election inconclusive
Meanwhile INEC has fixed september 27 for the election re-run. Disclosing this after due consultation with political parties’ agents at the INEC office in Osogbo, the INEC’s Chief Returning Officer in Osun State, Joseph Adeola Fuwape, opined that PDP secured a total vote of 254,698 with APC candidate seconding with 254,345 votes.
PDP used a margin of 353 votes to top APC.
