Liverpool has added another cup to its collection, this time defeating Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday on penalties 2-2 (5-4) at BJK Vodafone Park in Istanbul, Turkey.

Olivier Giroud of Chelsea opened the scoring in the 36th minute off an assist from Christian Pulisic. Liverpool’s Sadio Mane would find the back of the net twice in the second half, his tying goal coming in the 48th minute and his second in extra time. Roberto Firmino, a second half substitute for the Reds, was the orchestrator of both goals.

It took 101st-minute penalty from Jorginho to give Chelsea life after the Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian appeared to make contact with Tammy Abraham.

The match would require all five penalty takers to find a winner, as it was Abaraham whose final shot for Chelsea was saved.

Recall the this is Liverpool’s fourth Super Cup title, last winning in 2005.

The UEFA Super Cup is a match between the winners of the Champions League and the Europa League, both won this year by English clubs.

Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-0 to win its sixth Champions League title on June 1, while Chelsea put four goals past Arsenal to win its second Europa League title on May 29.
