The Supreme Court dismissed a plea on Monday alleging that its registrars' listing of cases was biased and fined a lawyer 100 rupees for filing such an application.

A bank, consisting of Arun Mishra and SA Nazeer, said it had rejected the PIL filed by lawyer Reepal Kansal and ordered him to pay 100 rupees to file such an application.

Kansal said that due to technical problems, the bank could not deliver its judgment via video conference, and communicated its judgment over the phone. The lawyer said the court ruled that the allegations had no basis.

The PIL claimed that influential lawyers / petitioners are preferred when listing cases.

The Supreme Court reserved its judgment on PIL on June 19, requesting its registrars to file cases filed by influential lawyers or litigants in front of banks during difficult times when virtual courts function due to supremacy not to prefer Covid19 pandemic.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction with the plea that the Apex Court register worked day and night for the benefit of litigants and lawyers.

"Registration works day and night for you people … it has become a trend," the bank said.

The plea had also asked the Secretary General of the Apex Court and other officials for instructions to stop discrimination against less influential lawyers. According to the submission, there was no mechanism to deal with complaints against defective registry officials, which some law firms / lawyers prefer for the reasons they are most familiar with. She also asked the officials concerned not to point out unnecessary defects to ordinary lawyers / petitioners and to reimburse the excess court fee and other fees.
